MICHAEL J HEFFERNAN B.Ec (Hons) Monash- LLB Melbourne FSIA; Honorary Senior Fellow Corporate Directors Association Michael Heffernan has over 25 years experience in the finance and securities industry and is currently a Senior Client Advisor and Strategist with a leading Australian Sharebroker Austock Securities Limited after having been Chief Economist/Lawyer with the Australian Stock Exchange for 13 years. and an Economist with Commonwealth Department of Empployment and Industrial Relations for 11 years. He is a well respected and frequently quoted and referred to commentator on the market and economic events and appears regularly on TV, radio and in the business sections of daily newspapers In his current position with Austock, Mr Heffernan is involved with analysing developments in the Australian economy and major overseas markets, and translating these trends into opportunities in the Australian sharemarket for investors and clients. Michael's role therefore embodies research, analysis and comprehensive portfolio advice to clients . Prior to joining Austock Mr Heffernan has been employed as an Economist with the Commonwealth Department of Employment before being his period as Chief Economist /Lawyer with the Australian Stock Exchange. In his role at the ASX Mr Heffernan had responsibility for articulating the central importance of Exchange in particular, and the securities industry more generally, for the efficient functioning of the Australian economy. In addition to memberships of legal, economic and securities industry associations Mr Heffernan is heavily involved with the educational side of the industry. In this respect he is a Senior Fellow and Councillor of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FinSia), and immediate past Victorian Chairman of this recently created Institute (a body resulting from the merger of the Securities Institute of Australia and the Australasian Institute of Banking and Finance). Mr Heffernan is also Chairman of the “Task Force” for the subject of “Financial Markets and Economics”in Kaplan's Masters Course of Applied Finance and Investment. In this position Michael has responsibility for the overall content and direction of this core subject Australia wide. Mr Heffernan also is a sought after speaker on investing in the sharemarket and its interaction with the economy and in this respect he regularly talks with various investor, community and professional groups. In addition he continually researches and analyses economic and market developments to assess likely future trends which form the basis for his sharemarket selections. |
